#VALUE!
When Freddie Bach from the USA started feeling unwell and realized something was wrong with his health, he was in Israel for about three years until his mother decided to come visit him. Just one look at her son, and his mother understood something was amiss. "She took me to the hospital, and they ran blood tests on me," recalls Bach.
The doctors, who couldn't believe the results the first time, decided to perform the blood tests again to confirm what they were seeing.
The diagnosis was kidney failure, which meant that from being a young and energetic man, Bach became a dialysis patient whose every moment was now dedicated to the battle for life.
Together with his mother, Bach flew back to his homeland, America, where he joined the waiting list for kidney transplants among some 100,000 other candidates. He was told the waiting time was at least eight years. Freddie knew he needed a double miracle to regain his healthy life—considering both the long waiting list and the fact that most dialysis patients do not survive the disease for long.
"I love to read, and we had a book called 'Just One Word: Amen.' It talks about the power of blessings and saying amen," Freddie says.
'You've Won the Lottery. We've Found the Perfect Kidney for You'
When he showed the book to his mother, she immediately decided on an amen party dedicated to her son's healing. "We went to a lesson at the synagogue with my rabbi, and after the lesson, my mother said she wanted to hold a blessing party because her son wasn't feeling well. She asked who wanted to help, and one of the young women volunteered for it."
The two managed to organize a party with no less than 120 women, each bringing a different type of food. Each woman blessed, and the others said 'amen.' Now think about this for a moment: 120 women, each in turn saying a blessing over something different, and all the others patiently responding 'amen.'
Then, three days later, came a phone call. It was on Shabbat afternoon. "We heard the answering machine pick up, and immediately after, the voice of a woman telling us: 'You've won the lottery. We've found the perfect kidney for you,'" recalls Freddie.
It turned out that the perfect kidney belonged to a man from Texas who had just passed away, and the match was so perfect for what Freddie needed. It was so perfect that Freddie was catapulted to the top of the waiting list, and the announcement call wasn't slow to arrive. "The chance of such a match is one in 10 million," Freddie explains the miracle within the miracle. "It's like hitting all six numbers in the lottery."
Within 24 hours, Freddie received the gift of life.
