In a special interview conducted by journalist Zvi Yehezkeli with Rabbi Shalom Arush, published on the Orot Channel - when the rabbi was asked to answer the question 'What is faith?', he began by saying: "There is no such thing as a person - having no faith. Such a reality does not exist. There is a power within a person, every person, that is called faith."

In his remarks, Rabbi Arush explained that faith is derived from the word trust. "If I didn't have trust in you, and you didn't have trust in me – we wouldn't be sitting today and talking to each other. Is there intellect in it? There is no intellect in it. This is faith. Faith is not intellect. Where the intellect ends – that's where faith begins."

The rabbi continued and gave an example to illustrate his words. "I now understand there is a table here. Do I need to believe that? Faith begins where I can no longer grasp with the tools of intellect. So now you'll tell me: 'Well, if I can't grasp it with my intellect, how will I know what to believe in?' The answer is that within faith itself there is a very straight reasoning, senses with which you can feel and see."

And what happens if a person still has difficulty believing in the existence of the soul, for example? To this, the rabbi answers with laughter, that anyone who does not believe is invited to visit the cemetery. There, there is no soul; the soul has left the body. "When they come to me and say: 'Prove to me there is faith', I say it's very simple. Here, I move my finger and you explain to me how the finger moves? One explanation: that there is a Creator of the world."

The rabbi explains his intention and says that this vitality can only be given by the Creator of the world. "This vitality is a spiritual thing. It has no explanation in this world. It is called the Creator of the world. Your soul – that is the Creator."
