The measure of consumption required for a final blessing (from "Daily Halacha" according to the rulings of Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory):

For everything a person eats, they must recite an "initial blessing," such as the blessing "shehakol" or "ha'etz." And even if they only consume a small amount of that food, they are required to bless it, as long as they intend to eat it. (However, if they only taste it for the purpose of adjusting the seasoning or similar, they do not bless this taste at all). Therefore, a person who chews flavored gum, even though they swallow very little of it, is still obligated to bless the enjoyment from its taste. Similarly, anyone who drinks something must recite a blessing even if they intend to drink only a single drop of that beverage.

However, this is only relevant to the initial blessing, but a final blessing is only recited when one has consumed "significant consumption." The measure of significant consumption is the size of an "olive," i.e., twenty-seven grams, and for drinks, the measure is a "revi'it," which is eighty-one grams.

In addition, the consumption of the food or drink must be within a timeframe that allows them to be considered a single unit. For instance, if someone eats the equivalent of an "olive" size of bread over an entire day, crumb by crumb, they certainly cannot recite the blessing after the meal. The consumption of the "olive" size must occur within the timeframe of "achilat pras," and there is a debate among Halachic authorities on its exact length, with some suggesting five minutes and others around seven and a half minutes (with other opinions as well). Therefore, it is advisable to always complete the "olive" size portion (especially during Shabbat meals) within four and a half minutes to accommodate all opinions.

Regarding the final blessing on drinks, one must consume a revi'it of the drink (which is eighty-one grams) all at once; if there is a pause between sips, no final blessing is made. Therefore, one who eats soup with a spoon does not recite a final blessing on the consumption of the soup, since it wasn't consumed in a single gulp. Likewise, someone drinking hot coffee or tea does not bless it afterward because they cannot drink it all at once.
