The amount of food required to obligate the recitation of an after-blessing (from "Daily Halacha" based on the rulings of Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef ZT"L):

For every item that a person eats, they are required to say a "first blessing," such as the blessing "shehakol" or "ha'etz." Even if they consume only a small amount of that food, they must recite a blessing, as long as the food is being eaten with purpose. (However, if they taste the food merely to adjust its seasoning or the like, no blessing is recited at all.) Therefore, one who chews flavored chewing gum, even if they do not swallow much of it, still must bless for the enjoyment of the taste of the gum. Similarly, one must bless on a drink even if drinking just one drop of it.

Yet, all this applies to the first blessing. The last blessing is only said when the food consumed is of an "important eating" quantity, measured as an amount known as kezayit, which is twenty-seven grams. For drinking, the measurement is a revi'it, which is eighty-one grams.

In addition, the eating or drinking must be done within a set time frame so that the acts of eating or drinking are combined. Since if a person were to eat the amount of a kezayit of bread throughout the entire day, piece by piece, they certainly could not bless birkat hamazon afterward. Rather, the consumption of the kezayit must be within the time frame of "achilat pras," and the exact timeframe is debated among the scholars, with some suggesting it is five minutes and others suggesting it's about seven and a half minutes (and there are other opinions). Therefore, it is advisable to always eat the amount of a kezayit (especially at Shabbat meals) within four and a half minutes to satisfy all opinions.

Regarding the last blessing on beverages, one must drink a revi'it of the beverage (which amounts to eighty-one grams) at once. If there were pauses between sips, no last blessing would be recited. Therefore, for someone drinking soup with a spoon, they do not recite a last blessing on that soup because they did not consume a revi'it at once. Similarly, one who drinks hot coffee or tea does not recite a last blessing, as they cannot drink it all at once.
