The amount of food necessary to require a final blessing (from "Halacha Yomit" based on the rulings of Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, may his memory be blessed):

For anything a person eats, they must recite a "first blessing" such as "Shehakol" or "Ha'etz." Even if they only consume a small amount, they are required to bless, as long as the intention is to eat. (However, if one tastes food merely to adjust seasoning, no blessing is necessitated). Therefore, if one chews flavored gum, even though they swallow very little of it, they still must bless because they derive pleasure from the taste. Likewise, if someone drinks any beverage, they need to bless even if they only drink a single drop.

However, this applies specifically to the first blessing. The final blessing is recited only when one has had a "significant eating," which is defined as the quantity of a "kezayit," approximately twenty-seven grams. For drinks, the measure is "revi'it," which is approximately eighty-one grams.

In addition, the eating or drinking must occur within a timeframe that the consumption is considered combined. For instance, if someone eats a "kezayit" of bread over an entire day, crumb by crumb, they certainly cannot recite Birkat Hamazon afterward. Instead, the consumption of a "kezayit" must occur within the time frame of "achilat pras," though opinions vary on its precise duration, ranging from five to seven and a half minutes (there are other opinions as well). It is best to consume a kezayit within four and a half minutes to satisfy all views, especially during Shabbat meals.

Regarding the final blessing for beverages, one must drink a revi'it (eighty-one grams) at once. If there is a pause between sips, no final blessing is recited. Hence, someone sipping soup with a spoon does not bless afterward, as they haven't consumed a revi'it in one go. Similarly, those drinking hot coffee or tea cannot recite a final blessing because they cannot drink it all at once.
