#VALUE!
Violet Golan had just moved to Israel when she became pregnant with her third child. One day, in her second month of pregnancy, she started to bleed. "I was at work and got very scared," she recalled. She rushed home and went to see a doctor.
The doctor did an exam and told her the heartbreaking news: "There's no heartbeat. The baby didn’t survive." He referred her to the hospital for an abortion. Violet made an appointment, and when the day came, she showed up as scheduled.
"I was already lying on the hospital bed,” she remembers. “The doctor said the anesthesiologist would be coming soon to begin the procedure.” Then, the doctor stepped out of the room.
Suddenly, a young doctor walked in. Violet assumed he was the anesthesiologist. But instead, he gently asked her, “Ma’am, why are you here?” She explained what had happened. “Let’s check again, just to be sure,” he said kindly.
He pushed her bed through the hallways himself until they reached an ultrasound room. He carefully examined her from every angle, looking closely at the screen.
Then he stopped. “Ma’am, there’s a heartbeat,” he said. “The baby is alive. You don’t need the abortion.”
Still in shock, Violet followed him back to the room where the abortion had been scheduled. The senior doctor who was meant to perform the procedure called out to the young man, “Come here, we need to start.”
But the young doctor calmly said, “There’s no need. The baby is alive.”
The senior doctor paused, then turned to Violet and said, “Get dressed. Come to the doctors' office when you're ready.”
When Violet went to the office, she asked, “Who was that young doctor?” But no one knew. The nurse said she had never seen him before. “As far as I know,” she said, “he doesn’t even work in this hospital.”
That baby—the one they thought had no heartbeat—was born healthy. Her name is Sally.
Even now, many years later, Violet still wonders who that young doctor was. “I don’t know where he came from,” she says. “But today, I believe he was an angel sent from Heaven.”
