#VALUE!
For 18 long years, a couple in Israel prayed for children. They waited, hoped, cried, and never gave up. And then, after almost two decades, their prayers were finally answered—in the most beautiful way. They were blessed with not just one child, but two: a baby boy and a baby girl.
This miracle didn’t happen out of nowhere. It began last Chanukah, when the father of the family decided to visit Rabbi Feinstein, a well-known and deeply respected rabbi who leads a yeshiva called Ateret Shlomo. The father asked the rabbi if there was anything special he and his wife could do—a segulah—a spiritual practice that could help open the gates of Heaven and bring them closer to having children.
Rabbi Feinstein thought for a moment, and then gave advice that was simple but powerful. He suggested that the couple take on one special mitzvah (commandment): to avoid unnecessary talking on Shabbat. That means not having regular weekday conversations during this holy day, but instead keeping Shabbat peaceful and focused on holiness, family, and rest.
The Rabbi explained that this idea comes from a verse in the book of Isaiah: “If you honor Shabbat… by not speaking idle words,” then Hashem will respond with kindness. He blessed the couple that if they were careful with this mitzvah, they would be blessed in return.
The couple took these words to heart. Even though it wasn’t easy, they quietly made this change in their lives. Every Shabbat, they made an extra effort to keep their conversations meaningful and in the spirit of the day.
And then, not even a full year later, their dream came true. Hashem blessed them with twins.
This past Shabbat, the emotional father stood up at the Kiddush and thanked Hashem in front of friends and family. His voice shook with emotion as he spoke about the miracle that had come into their lives. Eighteen years of longing turned into double joy—one baby boy, one baby girl.
Their story reminds us that even small changes can open the door to big blessings. When we do something for Hashem with a full heart—even something as quiet as speaking less on Shabbat—He listens, and He answers in ways we never imagined.
