Doctors who help bring babies into the world see many difficult situations. Most of the time, they carry on professionally, even when the job is emotionally heavy. But every once in a while, something happens that leaves a mark on the heart. That’s what happened to one doctor who shared his pain anonymously, and his words have touched thousands.
“Today was the saddest day of my life,” he wrote. “I’ve cared for many women during pregnancy and birth. Each time, I’m struck by the strength it takes—both the pregnancy and the birth itself. It never gets easier to witness what women go through just to bring a child into the world.”
The post included a photo of the doctor, his face buried in his hands. Next to it, he shared what had happened that day: “Today, I cried like a child. I lost a woman in the delivery room. As doctors, we try to stay strong. But when something like this happens, you stop feeling like a doctor—and just feel like a person who failed someone.”
What made this loss so painful? He explained: “She had waited 14 years to have a child. She tried every possible treatment, every option science could offer. And finally, against all odds, she was expecting.”
The delivery was difficult. After seven long hours, the team decided to perform an emergency C-section. The baby was born—and then, the worst happened.
“We lost her,” the doctor wrote simply. “But the baby lived. Before she passed, she held her newborn in her arms and smiled.”
The doctor then described one of the hardest moments of his career—facing the husband and telling him that his wife was gone. The man fainted immediately. “Their happiest day turned to heartbreak in an instant,” the doctor said.
And then came his emotional plea: “Please honor your wives. Respect the women in your life. A woman carries your child for nine months, and then she goes through the valley of death to bring that child into the world. It’s not something to take lightly. This woman gave her life to give life. Many women sacrifice their bodies, their strength, and sometimes even their lives to bring love into this world.”
In Jewish tradition, we understand that bringing new life into the world is not just a biological act—it’s spiritual. It’s holy. A woman becomes a partner with Hashem in creation. And that’s not something we should ever forget.
This doctor’s broken heart is also a wake-up call: to appreciate, to respect, and to cherish the women who give us life—again and again.
