Saved Just in Time: A Story of Divine Protection

A terrifying fall, a hidden danger, and the miracle that reminded one family that Hashem is always watching over us

It was an ordinary day. Shaul Serugo, a dedicated kollel student from Mexico, was in the middle of his Torah studies when his phone suddenly rang. On the other end of the line was his wife, crying and clearly panicked.

“Come home quickly,” she pleaded through tears. “The child fell from a height of one and a half meters and hit her head badly. She’s not responding. I don’t know what to do!”

Shaul was shaken to his core. His four-year-old daughter was the light of his life. Hearing that she had been seriously hurt was almost too much to bear. But in the midst of his fear, he held on tightly to his emunah (faith) in Hashem. He tried to stay calm and spoke gently to his wife.

“Don’t panic,” he told her. “Let’s give it half an hour. Maybe she just needs some time to come around.” They agreed that if she didn’t improve, he would come home right away and they’d take her to see a doctor.

But Shaul’s wife didn’t wait. Trusting her motherly instincts, she quickly took their daughter to the doctor on her own.

At the clinic, the doctor decided to take a head x-ray to understand the severity of the injury. But something strange happened. The first x-ray came out completely burnt. The second one too. Then the third. It made no sense.

The doctor, confused and concerned, sent Shaul’s wife for a more advanced scan at a nearby medical center.

It was only there that the real miracle was revealed.

“When the doctors performed the advanced scan,” Shaul explains, “they discovered that our daughter had somehow inserted a small metal button into her nose. That’s what had interfered with the x-rays and caused them to burn.”

Without the advanced scan, the metal button would never have been found. And if they had waited even a little longer, if the button had moved deeper into her airway it could have completely blocked her breathing.

Baruch Hashem, they discovered it just in time. It was a moment of open hashgacha pratis, divine providence, showing how Hashem watches over us in ways we sometimes don’t even realize.

Shaul reflects on the experience with deep gratitude. “This was a huge miracle. Hashem saved our daughter from something that could have ended very differently. We thank Hashem not only for the miracles we can see but also for the ones that go unnoticed.”
