Cooking with Hashem's Help: An Interview with Aya Kremerman

How Aya Kremerman brought Hashem back into her life, her home and her cooking

The finale of MasterChef VIP on Channel 2, the tension is high. Host Michal Ansky announces Aya Kremerman in third place. The judges applaud, and a teary Aya thanks her husband and “Hashem, who… never left me.” She pauses, then calls out, “Hashem is One and His name is One.” The audience cheers.

Aya welcomes me into her elegant Ramat HaSharon home, full of light yet clearly lived-in by a big family. We step into the backyard: sun shines through trees, a bird flits overhead. Aya, wearing a headscarf and modest clothes, speaks warmly, Hashem naturally woven into every sentence.

Born 38 years ago into a loving secular family, her mother Rachel was a Likud activist; her father Joseph, a Knesset member, life changed at five when her father died suddenly. “Mom said, ‘Dad is dead,’ and I lost my breath,” Aya recalls. That moment sparked her first belief in something beyond this world: “I knew inside he was in heaven… death couldn’t be the end.”

Later, talking with a friend who denied any afterlife, Aya was surprised. “Do you really believe a person just disappears?” she asked. “I felt my father beside me… Faith isn’t enough, it’s knowing.”

Aya’s teenage years brought a passion for ballet. She trained in Tel Aviv and then North Carolina. Despite longing for home, she excelled until a serious knee surgery shifted her path. “Hashem saved me,” she reflects. She left the competitive arts world, calling it “sublime yet destructive,” and returned to Israel, crutches and all, racing home.

Back in Israel, Aya began modeling with Look agency and met Ziv Langer. “At 18, Hashem sent me my husband,” she smiles. They married after four years, in a religious ceremony (by halacha), and though she once thought modeling was empowering, today she’s horrified watching girls exploited in that world.

Hosting Good Evening with Guy Pines marked another step in her public life. “Modeling put a face out there; hosting gave me a voice.” But despite success, a subtle hunger lingered: “Something inside knew Hashem has demands on us.”

With the arrival of their son Ilay at 27, everything shifted: “He brought Hashem into our lives… I felt like He said, ‘Wake up.’” Together, step by gentle step they began observing Shabbat and kashrut, attending synagogue, and eventually deeper Torah classes. “No power struggles, just Hashem sending reinforcements…”

Now the mother of five, three boys, two girls, Aya is grateful for every blessing in this world. “I didn’t return for the World to Come; all the gifts are here already, family, parenting, honoring parents, completion.” She sees raising children as a mitzvah rooted in faith and Torah values, not as a burden, but a blessing.

On modesty: Aya first covered her hair on Shabbat after her son Ilay told her it made Hashem and him happy. She began gradually. “Hair was plastered on global campaigns. Covering it… is one of the best gifts I’ve received.” She chose scarves (not wigs), so people know she’s a married woman. Today, modesty is a deeply personal, not fashion-driven choice.

When invited to MasterChef VIP, she agreed only to sanctify God’s name, insisting on her own kosher utensils, her oven, and no sponsorships from non‑kosher brands like Tiv Taam. Filming spanned ten intense days, 17‑hour shoots with a nursing baby at home. Aya admits: “It wasn’t easy. I fought, I didn’t want to be humiliated, and Hashem gave me strength. I took it spiritually.”

There were breakdowns. “One? Many. I just wanted to go home. But I held on.”

Today Aya gives lectures across Israel, speaking about faith, modesty, and meaning. From runway to Shabbat table, her journey shows that with Hashem by your side, spiritual nourishment can transform not only your plate, it transforms a life.
