President Donald Trump called today for Israel to maintain “a strong and true dialogue with Syria,” issuing an extended statement on Truth Social in which he praised what he described as significant progress inside the country. Trump wrote that “The United States is very satisfied with the results displayed, through hard work and determination, in the Country of Syria,” saying his lifting of “very strong and biting sanctions” had been “truly appreciated by Syria, its Leadership, and its People.”

Trump emphasized that “nothing takes place that will interfere with Syria’s evolution into a prosperous State,” and said Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa “is working diligently to make sure good things happen.” He added that Syria and Israel “will have a long and prosperous relationship together,” calling the moment “a historic opportunity” that “adds to the SUCCESS… for PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST!”

Following the post, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a conversation with Trump. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke a short time ago with U.S. President Donald Trump. Both leaders emphasized… the importance and commitment to dismantling Hamas of its weapons and demilitarizing the Gaza Strip, and they discussed expanding the peace agreements.” The PMO said that “President Trump invited Prime Minister Netanyahu to a meeting at the White House in the near future.”

At the same time Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa met with U.S. Special Envoy Tom Barrack, with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani also attending. According to the Syrian statement, Sharaa and Barrack discussed “the latest developments in the region and issues of common interest.” The meeting occurred amid ongoing regional discussions but was not linked to the Trump–Netanyahu call.

Developments also unfolded along the Israeli–Syrian front. On Friday, an IDF force conducted arrests of suspects inside a Syrian village. After the arrests were completed, gunfire was directed at the Israeli soldiers as they exited, wounding six troops. During the extraction effort, airstrikes were carried out in the area. According to Syrian reports, around 20 Syrians were killed in the strikes, and Syria accused Israel of causing civilian casualties. The incident led to sharp criticism from Syria and calls inside the country for a response.

The overlapping diplomatic statements and security events continue to shape Israel’s regional environment as discussions with Washington move forward.
