"Mom, What?! This Belonged to Pharaoh?!": Discovering Our Jewish Roots Through 'Biblical Archaeology' by Rabbi Zamir Cohen

I never imagined my preschool-aged children would be so captivated by a book not originally meant for them. But the stunning images and the truth of the holy Torah unearthed from the ground connected us to the rich, majestic past of our eternal people. A personal reflection and a must-read book recommendation.

"What?! Mom, this belonged to Pharaoh?!" they exclaimed, their innocent eyes wide open in front of photos of massive jewelry and golden artifacts. My 4-year-old son was enthralled by a picture of Ramses II's signet ring, the wicked Pharaoh from the Exodus story.

"Yes," I replied with both excitement and surprise: My children, ages 6, 4, and 2 and a half, are breathing life into biblical stories with such enthusiasm during our Shabbat lights. We could physically feel their Jewish souls growing stronger, taking root and deepening in the soil during these moments.

The kids continued to gaze incredulously at the book's breathtaking images. They pulled it close, inspected the images on their own, and marveled with a newfound awe at the Bible's stories, which seemed to spring to life right before their young eyes. We hadn't expected such a wondrous Shabbat.

"Thanks to the Book, I Saw the Proud Jewish Smiles of My Family Members"

The children looked with curiosity and excitement at the jewelry and artifacts from the pharaonic era in Egypt, asking curious questions typical of children. They engaged in conversations about the images, thrilled that there were real pictures from the stories they heard at home and in preschool about what happened to the people of Israel.

I was extremely moved when the "Biblical Archaeology" book was delivered to our home right before Shabbat. A marvelous gift, the family dove into the enchanting world of the Bible, brought vividly to life through the book's pages. Quality, detailed photos accompanied us through Shabbat. I read an important excerpt aloud and saw the proud Jewish smiles of my extended family. A relative even borrowed the book for the next Shabbat, reporting back how he couldn’t put it down for hours, captivated and amazed.

Without words, we felt uplifted by the magical feeling of belonging to the people of Israel - a nation with a rich past and the majesty of Hashem, an endless light greater than any Jewish bookshelf could contain.

Here are some wonderful words written on the back cover of the book:

For ages, the historical events narrated in the Bible have fueled the imagination of archaeologists. No other book in the world has served as the basis for so many research studies and archaeological discoveries as the Bible, and no area in the world has been thoroughly researched like the Biblical Lands.

Biblical Archaeology books are visually stunning and present countless archaeological discoveries, illuminating the Bible’s truth and detailing the human history in the Biblical Lands.

The book is rich with amazing, sometimes rare photographs that illustrate the narratives. Step by step, the reader journeys through Israel's tumultuous historical landmarks, reflected in the fascinating finds unearthed from beneath the ground.

The powerful empires of the ancient Near East come to life briefly before returning to dust, while the eternal nation emerges from their ruins, continuing its journey towards its historic destiny.

The books present comments from leading archaeologists, stating that findings in the field clearly point to the credibility of Biblical testimonies and their precise details, even from a research perspective.
