#VALUE!
On the 18th of Elul in the year 5458 (known in texts as the year of "Nachat"), Rabbi Yisrael Baal Shem Tov was born to his parents, Rabbi Eliezer and Sarah. Rabbi Yisrael was orphaned at a young age, and the teacher in the village served as his guardian. As he grew older, he began studying the texts given to him by Rabbi Adam Baal Shem, one of the hidden righteous people of that generation. Rabbi Yisrael began to seek solitude and elevate himself both in the revealed Torah and its mystical aspects. He moved to Brody, where he married the daughter of Rabbi Ephraim of Kitov.
It was only at the age of 36 that his greatness became known to the world. He started to become famous as a holy man, attracting many who wished to learn from him and receive his blessings. The Baal Shem Tov began spreading the teachings of Hasidism, which quickly expanded and brought comfort to many Jews who did not find their place in the prevalent moralistic approach of the time.
Around the year 5500, the Baal Shem Tov moved to serve as a rabbi in Mezhibuzh, where he remained until his passing on Shavuot 5520. His students continued his path, spreading Hasidism throughout the world. May his merit protect us.
