Rabbi Yaakov Lorberbaum, affectionately known as "Ba'al Hanetivot" or "the Genius of Lissa," was born in 1832. His father passed away before he was born, and he was named after him.
The genius from Lissa was born in Galicia and was a student of Rabbi Meshulam Igra. As he grew older, he became the rabbi of Kalisz, later moving to the town of Lissa, where he founded a yeshiva that he led for 30 years. Thanks to this yeshiva, Lissa became a significant center of Torah learning in the Poznan region.
Rabbi Yaakov authored many books, with the most renowned being "Netivot Hamishpat," which he wrote on the order of Choshen Mishpat. This work earned him the moniker "Ba'al Hanetivot." In it, he analyzes the Talmudic discussions and provides rulings on various halachic matters. Alongside the book "Ketzot Hachoshen" by Rabbi Aryeh Leib Heller, "Netivot Hamishpat" became a foundational text in yeshivas in Poland and Lithuania.
On the 25th of Iyar, 5592, Rabbi Yaakov Lorberbaum passed away. May his memory be a blessing.
