Rabbi Tzvi Elimelech Shapira was born in the year 1783 in the town of Jaworow, Galicia, to Rabbi Pesach Langzam, a teacher descended from Rabbi Shimshon of Ostropoli, and Ita, the niece of the "Noam Elimelech."

Rabbi Tzvi Elimelech's parents had lost several children during early childhood. When Ita became pregnant again, she sought advice from her uncle, Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk, known as the "Noam Elimelech," about choosing a name that would ensure the child’s survival. The "Noam Elimelech" advised her to name him Elimelech, promising that he would live and enlighten the world with his sacred teachings.

Rabbi Tzvi Elimelech studied under the Chozeh of Lublin, and Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Rimanov. He also learned from Rabbi Yisrael Hopstein of Kozhnitz, and Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Heshel of Apta. He maintained relationships with Rabbi Naftali Tzvi of Ropshitz, and Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch of Zhidachov.

In 1799, at the young age of 16, he served as a dayan (judge) in the rabbinic court of his teacher, Rabbi Yehoshua of Dinov. He later became the rabbi of the city of Ropczyce, where he served for around ten years, followed by a five-year tenure in the city of Mukachevo. He also served as rabbi in Stryzow and Halicz.

After the passing of his mentors, Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Rimanov and the Chozeh of Lublin, he was appointed as a Rebbe.

Rabbi Tzvi Elimelech Shapira passed away on the 18th of Tevet, 1841, at the age of only 58. From Rabbi Tzvi Elimelech originated the Dinov dynasty, which branched into several courts, including the Munkatch and Blazow Hasidic sects that exist to this day. Many of his descendants served as significant rabbis and Rebbes, and married into Hasidic dynasties such as Belz, Sadigura, Sanz-Klausenburg, Satmar, Ruzhin, as well as descendants of the Baal Shem Tov, the Holy Shlah, the Chozeh of Lublin, and others.
