The Mystery of Guy Hever: A Soldier's Disappearance

The Year: 1997. The Place: Golan Heights. The Possibility: Syrian Abduction.

On August 17, 1997, it seemed like just another morning in the Golan Heights when Guy Hever walked out of the military base gates, equipped with his personal weapon. He disappeared without a trace.

A month earlier, Hever was sentenced to 21 days of detention for falling asleep while on guard duty. For years, the IDF claimed that his disappearance was related to this sentence, suggesting the soldier had simply fled and was hiding somewhere.

However, as time went on, it became clear the situation was more complicated. Hever was officially declared missing, and it was speculated that he might have been taken to Syria, possibly held there. A Syrian organization calling itself the 'Committees for the Resistance of the Golan Heights Occupation' even announced having him in their custody.

A German citizen living in Israel claimed that Guy Hever interviewed her in Hebrew while she was detained in a Syrian prison for 12 days. Yet, the mystery remains unsolved.

Hever's family has offered a reward of half a million shekels to anyone providing information leading to the resolution of his disappearance. In recent years, searches have been renewed with the help of the IDF and police, including the formation of a command center dedicated to reviving the search efforts. However, these efforts have been in vain, as no new information has emerged.
