There Is a God
How the Torah Transformed Humanity: From Ancient Idols to the Discovery of One God
Long before modern science proved the unity of the universe, Avraham and the Torah revealed that all creation is interconnected and guided by one divine Creator

Many people are unaware of the profound influence that the Torah has had on the entire world. It was the Torah that first revealed to humanity the belief in one eternal and infinite God who created the universe: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Bereishit 1:1)
Before the Torah was given, all nations of the world were idol worshipers.
The Origins of Idol Worship
Belief in idols began with a primitive understanding of nature. Ancient people observed how one element seemed to dominate another — for instance, how water extinguishes fire, and concluded that each natural force must have its own divine ruler.
They imagined a god of fire and a god of water, constantly struggling for control. They worshiped a sun god, a moon god, a god of life, and a god of death — praying to each one according to their needs.
Avraham’s Revolution: Discovering the Oneness of Creation
Over 4,000 years ago, Avraham challenged this childish worldview. He taught that the universe operates in perfect harmony — the sun and moon follow precise, synchronized orbits; animals and ecosystems coexist in balance; and such order cannot arise from rival deities.
Avraham declared that this harmony reveals the truth of one Creator, who designed all parts of creation for a unified purpose.
Modern Science Confirms the Torah’s Vision
Today, modern science has rediscovered the very truth that Avraham proclaimed millennia ago: the unity of creation. Scientists have found that fire and water are not composed of different substances — nor are gold and wood, sky and earth, or the sun and the moon.
Everything in the universe is made of the same building blocks: atoms — and all atoms are formed from the same fundamental particles. The differences we see arise only from how those particles are arranged, like Lego bricks assembled in endless configurations.
Modern physics has illustrated that matter and energy are simply two expressions of the same reality, and each can transform into the other.
The Harmony of Natural Laws
The same laws of nature operate everywhere in the cosmos. The force of gravity, for example, acts upon the sun and the moon just as it does upon distant galaxies — or even a small apple falling from a tree.
Once science demonstrated that all forces and substances act in perfect coordination, it provided powerful evidence of a single Creator who designed and sustains the entire universe.
A World Unified by Design
A watch is made of many parts, including gears, springs, and hands, all moving in harmony toward one purpose: to tell time.
In the same way, the forces of nature work together in exquisite order, like pieces of one vast puzzle, revealing the unity of the Creator who made them all for a single divine purpose.
The Torah and Science in Harmony
As science advances, it continues to confirm what Avraham taught, and what the Jewish people heard at Mount Sinai over 3,300 years ago: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is One.” (Devarim 6:4)
