Which Oil Helps Lower Cholesterol, If Any?

A naturopath was asked which oil is best for lowering cholesterol levels, and she reveals that there is one type of oil that is the most effective. She explains that the type of oil we use for cooking significantly impacts the strain on our bodies and the illnesses we suffer from.

The Problem With Refined Oils

The naturopath, named Anjali Mukerji, stated, “Your cooking oil can either support your heart health or quietly contribute to high cholesterol and inflammatory conditions.”
According to her, the best type of oil for reducing cholesterol is cold-pressed oil, which is produced differently from refined oils. Refined oils are rich in trans and saturated fats—both of which typically contribute to high cholesterol levels.
“Refined oils also promote inflammation and diseases like plaque buildup in the arteries, disrupting cholesterol balance,” she adds.

Why Cold-Pressed Oils Are Better

Cold-pressed oils, on the other hand, contain heart-friendly fats that help balance cholesterol. Besides olive oil, you can also find sesame oil and flaxseed oil that are produced through cold pressing, meaning they are made at a low temperature.

Why are they better for you compared to canola oil or other refined oils? The explanation is simple:
“Cold-pressed oils are rich in antioxidants and vitamins that help the body fight inflammation. They are free from harmful chemicals and promote good metabolism, contributing to good health and longevity,” she concludes.
