The Torah prescribes 613 commandments divided into two categories: 248 positive commandments and 365 prohibitions. The Zohar explains that the 248 positive commandments correspond to the 248 organs of the human body, while the 365 prohibitions align with the 365 sinews.

Similarly, the human soul is composed of 248 spiritual organs and 365 spiritual sinews, which are sustained by observance of the commandments: "Each organ from the 248 is nourished by a specific commandment related to that organ, and if a person neglects any commandment, the corresponding organ is deprived of its nourishment from the four letters of Hashem's name" (Rabbi Chaim Vital, Part I, Gate I). "When a person performs one of Hashem's commandments properly, that organ is sanctified and revived... the particular sinew associated with it is purified and sanctified as well" (Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, "Nefesh HaChayim").

Every Jew should understand that there is a spiritual reason for every physical ailment, whether due to a transgression, neglect of a commandment, or even disdain for one's own body, which is also a type of transgression.

We might initially think that illnesses solely develop from poor lifestyle choices. However, we must ask ourselves what precedes this? What aspect within our soul prevents us from living correctly? It all begins on a spiritual level. Therefore, a person who suffers in a certain organ should also question what they have spiritually compromised, and through the pains, they can correct their ways and return to the right path. Thus, every Jew must strive to fulfill all commandments to the best of their ability.

An example: During winter, a family member developed cold sores on her finger joints, accompanied by swelling and redness. I advised her to gently massage the joints daily with olive or coconut oil until the pain subsided, continuing this regimen for several minutes each day. The massage provided partial relief, but not entirely. After about a month, I realized there was another factor, as it should have resolved naturally, and spring had arrived with warmer weather. That week, through divine providence, I read about the laws of washing hands and taught the girl the specifics and subtleties. To our surprise, we discovered she had been washing incorrectly, not according to halacha! We corrected this immediately, and began meticulous adherence to proper handwashing; within that week, everything vanished as if it had never been. Blessed be His name forever.
