Candida is a single-celled yeast fungus that's a regular resident in the human body, part of the gut's natural flora (though some argue otherwise). Many types of Candida are known, but the most common is Candida albicans. In a healthy person, its main role is to break down leftover undigested food. After a person dies, Candida plays a crucial role in the decomposition of dead cells. Candida is almost everywhere—in the air and all around us. It thrives in conditions of moisture, air, food, and warmth (ideally our body temperature) and feeds on sugars (carbohydrates). When imbalanced, Candida weaves threads in the gut, creates tiny holes, and its toxins along with undigested food proteins enter the bloodstream and various organs. This can lead to different diseases and over 100 symptoms such as chronic runny nose, allergies, headaches, digestive issues, skin and joint problems, insomnia, weight gain, unpredictable mood swings, and more. To balance Candida in the body, it's advised to change daily diet and lifestyle.

In natural remedies to eliminate Candida, we don’t fight or kill it but provide less favorable living conditions for it (like reducing sugars temporarily), allowing it to decrease and return to its proper size to benefit different gut processes without causing harm.

In various anti-Candida diets, it is recommended to completely avoid yeast and empty carbohydrates to not encourage its development. It’s important to understand that yeast itself isn't what exacerbates Candida. However, it can cause gas in the digestive system, especially if the fermentation or baking process isn't complete, or if the yeast amount isn’t proportional to the dough, causing the yeast to keep fermenting in the stomach. What usually worsens the Candida condition is the consumption of large quantities of non-whole carbohydrates (sugars) and/or stress.

Additionally, gluten in flour, which helps the dough remain stable and makes yeast work efficiently, is equally significant in affecting Candida prosperity. This is one reason why most breads use flour with relatively high gluten content.
