Have You Had a Heart-to-Heart with the Ultimate Healer Lately?

Stories abound of people who've found healing through prayer alone. Back in biblical times, King Hezekiah of Israel (a descendant of the messianic line) hid the Book of Remedies—a book outlining cures for every ailment. In his prophetic foresight, he knew that if one could simply find a remedy in a book, they'd neglect to pray to their Creator for healing. That is why King Hezekiah concealed the book, to encourage people to pray for their recovery.

Nowadays, it seems many of us are quick to chase after all sorts of treatment methods in both conventional and natural medicine (and I'm not disparaging these professionals, God forbid). Alongside that, we whisper a quick prayer and seek salvation in these treatments. The order should be reversed—prioritize heartfelt prayer and solitude over spending our savings on doctors and therapies. Set up time with Hashem and present your challenges as if He stands before you.

Rebbe Nachman of Breslov teaches (Likutey Moharan, Tinyana Torah 1:11) that prayer for healing is the most powerful and effective method, surpassing any worldly remedies. If people could see with spiritual eyes (hidden beneath the physical guise) the impact of prayer, they'd pray ceaselessly instead of rushing to various doctors for medications. "I am Hashem, your healer...", meaning, I am your true physician, not anyone else. In this way, earthly doctors would feel humbled next to the healing power of the greatest healer.

With Hashem's help, the time when this truth is widely recognized isn't far off. Our Righteous Messiah will reinforce this reality: salvation through prayer. Prayer to the Creator will be his ultimate weapon. We don't have anyone to rely on but our Father in Heaven. What can a person do if all medical solutions fail them? ". . .and there exists an illness that no remedy can cure, because its strength surpasses that of herbs" (there). Should such a person fall into despair? God forbid! There is Hashem and his righteous ones.

The great leaders of our generation understand the underlying spiritual roots of illnesses and guide us in correcting them at their core. Jewish souls are hewn from Hashem's throne of glory, unlike those from other nations, which is why our remedies might differ. Everything filters from above to the physical body. May we merit to correct these roots, Amen.
