#VALUE!
The quote in the title is from Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, under the subject of "Truth," part two. I often mention it when talking to people about how to feel truly satisfied by their meals. Let's dive deeper into this topic.
The Creator, blessed be He, designed us, humans, with an instruction manual for our "machines" called bodies, just like any device comes with instructions. Surely, if the Creator formed us, He understands how our bodies operate optimally on Earth to serve Hashem with joy and happiness, by using appropriate fuel. This "fuel" is listed in our instruction manual—the Torah: "And Hashem said, 'Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree which has seed-yielding fruit, it shall be yours for food'" (Genesis 1:29).
Here's an explanation: Before the flood that Hashem brought into the world in Noah's days (after which eating from animals was permitted), humanity's entire diet consisted of seed-bearing plants and tree fruits, as written in the Torah. This means everything that is sown in the earth: various vegetables, grains (five species of grain—rye, spelt, wheat, oats, barley, along with rice and so on), legumes (lentils, peas, beans, fava beans, chickpeas, etc.), and tree fruits—fruits and different seeds, almonds, and nuts (unroasted, as sold in bulk stores). Hashem provided real food directly from the earth and the trees, fresh and healthy, without industrial additives like preservatives, emulsifiers, and colorings, which are now known to be harmful to our health.
Hashem has cared for us, His creations, and stamped His seal on the Torah with this wonderful menu, rich in vitamins, minerals, and all nutrients needed in perfect balance, without artificial additives. It’s best not to spoil it by overcooking, which can destroy its beneficial components that protect us from illnesses and other afflictions. It's preferable to eat it raw, except for grains and legumes, which require cooking.
Nowadays, most people in the Western world consume non-real food, predominantly animal-based rather than plant-based. Additionally, some modern food is genetically modified or contains synthetic hormones, pesticides, etc. Is it any wonder there is no true satisfaction in the world, and many pursue various diets? I shared the best diet globally from Hashem's instruction manual—the Torah. Those wise enough will incorporate it into daily life, and on Shabbat, little fish and meat can be added. Rabbi Nachman said, "Truth brings satisfaction." Everything true will surely lead us to satiety, genuine joy, and better health! From personal experience, real food, less cooked and raw, truly satisfies, slims, and lifts the spirit without constant snacking throughout the day. Give it a try and see for yourself.
