Every person has an innate sense of belief, even if they claim, "I don't believe." This is ingrained within the soul, especially for a Jew! If someone says they're a non-believer, they are in fact resisting their natural, inborn faith implanted by the Creator.
First, one must believe in the Creator and that He renews everything in creation, holding the power to heal any illness at any moment. Once you embrace this, you can see how prayer can alter the natural order.
Today, there are many remedies available for various ailments, but it's crucial to not idolize these treatments and turn to every alternative or conventional method, thereby diverting from the ultimate purpose, which is understanding Hashem's will for our spiritual path in this world.
Any illness or symptom we experience is a direct message from the Creator to examine and amend our actions. We are commanded to return from harmful deeds that affect us and our surroundings and reconnect with our inner self to draw true knowledge and guidance on how to act in every moment, with the counsel of the Creator dwelling within us. If you are alive, it symbolizes that you still have spiritual work to do.
Wellness is the completeness that the Creator has instilled within us, as His creation is perfect. Illness, on the contrary, signifies a deficiency in the person, which can stem from many causes. To remedy this lack, prayer is one of the best approaches. Rabbi Natan, the cherished disciple of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, said over 200 years ago, "Wherever I see a lack, it's either because there was no prayer at all or very little prayer".
One of the most challenging suffering in our world is that of the body and mind—illness—a significant deficiency. It's important to understand that every ailment, discomfort, and health condition of the body or soul is under the precise supervision of the Creator, and there's a reason for everything that happens to a person at any given time, from minor discomfort to incurable diseases, may we be spared. People then seek solutions to the void that arises in their lives to return to wholeness, to health. The wisest among us won't forget to engage in dialogue, supplication, and prayer to the Healer of all flesh, who performs wonders—Hashem. Especially now, during the tumultuous times we face, this advice is most potent.
