Garlic is a perennial plant standing 30-100 cm tall with a straight stem encased by long, narrow, flat leaves. The garlic bulb consists of tightly layered cloves enveloped by papery skin, with a flowering head of pinkish blooms on top.

As early as 400 BCE, Hippocrates recognized garlic's capacity as a disinfectant and cure for stomach ailments, asthma, cough, leprosy, skin lesions, and intestinal worms.

Five centuries later, a Greek physician recommended it as a trusted treatment for hemorrhoids and urinary tract diseases.

In the past two decades, around 700 articles and studies have extolled garlic's virtues. It's notably effective for ear infections: mix a tablespoon of olive oil with a crushed garlic clove, warm gently in a double boiler, and be cautious not to overheat. Put three drops of the warm mixture into the ear.

Garlic is beneficial for throat infections, respiratory and skin infections as well. It's comparable to antibiotics in this regard, effective against resistant bacteria. At the onset of an infection, take a dose of fresh garlic containing 3-4 cloves along with an anti-infective herbal tea, like sage or thyme, to quickly alleviate symptoms.

Garlic also acts as a blood thinner, making it highly beneficial for heart disease and arteriosclerosis. It cleanses arteries and dissolves fats, effectively reducing LDL cholesterol levels while balancing and increasing HDL levels.

It helps lower blood pressure by expelling excess salt and water from the body. Garlic is also effective against toxic bites. Applying garlic to the bite, the sulfur in it neutralizes venom and repels stinging creatures.

Garlic can inhibit certain cancerous tumors and prevent cancer.

It is known to enhance memory and reduce blood sugar levels.

In the Talmud (Bava Kama 82a), garlic is noted for its ability to satiate, brighten the face, kill intestinal parasites, and more.

A blend of garlic and oregano is very effective against the third plague—lice. Placing a garlic clove close to a bleeding nose can halt the nosebleed.

Garlic is a favorite seasoning used in a wide variety of dishes, such as meat roasts, pickled vegetables, salads, sauces, and more. Nowadays, you can find garlic powder, sliced garlic, and frozen crushed garlic ready to use in packages.

Garlic drops that preserve allicin in a beneficial form are available at natural food stores and pharmacies.
