Vitamins have become a hot topic among those who care about their health and the well-being of those around them.
Due to the importance of vitamins, many misunderstandings and unfounded beliefs about their functions have emerged. Some consider vitamins a miracle cure, a distillation of the "good" in food. Others believe vitamins can heal anything, making it crucial to acquire a general understanding of vitamins, their various properties, and how to use them correctly.
Vitamins are organic molecules found in living tissues, essential for metabolic processes in the body. Their role is to facilitate and enable biochemical processes occurring within us.
Vitamins do not add calories or alter the body's structure, but without them, there is no energy supply, and the body's construction and renewal processes do not function properly.
Vitamins are categorized into water-soluble vitamins—B and C—and fat-soluble vitamins—A, E, D, and K—with different absorption methods.
Water-soluble vitamins are absorbed directly into the bloodstream, while fat-soluble vitamins cannot be absorbed directly into the blood. Instead, they are first absorbed by lymph glands and then enter the blood through carrier proteins.
Once absorbed and transported to the cells, excess fat-soluble vitamins in the blood are isolated in various fat stores. In contrast, excess water-soluble vitamins are expelled from the body by the kidneys, thus avoiding toxicity risks.
The industrial revolution that occurred decades ago ushered in a modern lifestyle. Today, many consume processed foods lacking in vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients. These foods are enriched with artificial colors, preservatives, flavor enhancers, and more, harming our health. This has led to dangerous health implications. Numerous scientific studies prove that vitamins have significant health benefits in treating and preventing diseases and strengthening various body systems.
