Foot Fungus: Causes, Treatments, and When to See a Doctor
Explore natural treatments for foot fungus and know when it's time to consult a physician.

Foot fungus is a persistent and bothersome fungal infection, mostly affecting the feet between the toes and toes, creating a burning and itching sensation.
Humidity and warmth provide the fungus with an environment where it comfortably grows. Those suffering from excessive foot perspiration are more prone to contracting foot fungus. To prevent infection, avoid walking barefoot in public showers, bathrooms, and gyms.
Generally, foot fungus can be treated with home remedies, but sometimes a bacterial infection develops alongside the fungal infection. In such cases, consult a dermatologist.
The natural treatment involves soaking your feet in water with five drops of rosemary essential oil, five drops of lavender essential oil, and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar for 15 minutes. Then dry thoroughly and apply tea tree oil and calendula oil to the area.
Consider taking a probiotic supplement at bedtime. Foods like sauerkraut and miso—fermented soybeans rich in "good bacteria"—are beneficial. Consume 1-2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds daily, which aid in treating the fungus. Avoid sugar-rich diets and drink ten glasses of water daily. Eat foods like garlic, onions, spirulina algae, and wheatgrass juice to help detoxify the body.
An echinacea supplement aids in strengthening the immune system to fight against the fungus.
For nail fungus, a special solution designed for treating fungal nails can be purchased.
Local Skin Infection
There is a type of infection known as a "furuncle," a subcutaneous infection indicated by swelling around hair follicles on the neck and chest. It manifests as pain, and a white pus head can be seen. Do not touch the infection, and antibiotic treatment is unnecessary. Instead, apply a warm water compress to the area, then place an onion slice over it and cover with a band-aid. After several hours, the pus will drain and come out. You can apply honey or propolis ointment for complete healing.
