There are many types of herbs from which teas are brewed, each offering its unique health benefits and rich flavor.
Peppermint Tea is one of our favorites, both delightful and potent. Health-wise, peppermint tea is packed with B and E vitamins, minerals, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. It contains pectin, which helps reduce cholesterol and balance blood sugar levels. Peppermint tea is known to alleviate nausea, vomiting, soothe the digestive system, relieve stomach aches, bloating, gas, gallbladder inflammation, and ease respiratory issues as well as sinusitis.
Another familiar name is Chamomile tea. This tea is rich in vitamin B5 and folic acid, along with minerals such as calcium, zinc, and potassium. Chamomile serves as an anti-inflammatory, enhances appetite, soothes infants' stomach aches and gas, acts as an expectorant, disinfectant, heals wounds, strengthens the body, alleviates headaches, calms the nervous system, helps with anxiety and agitation, and soothes skin inflammations and sunburns. Placing chamomile tea-soaked compresses on affected areas can be beneficial.
Sage – Sage aids in healing mouth wounds and gum inflammation. Rinsing with sage leaf extract helps soothe the nervous system. While it reduces phlegm and nasal congestion, it is not recommended for nursing women, as it can decrease milk production.
Fennel – Fennel tea contains essential vitamins like beta carotene and B and E vitamins. Additionally, it boasts minerals like calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium. Research shows fennel supports digestive health and appetite regulation, enhances bile production, is effective against infant gas, and boosts milk production during nursing. It has a calming effect on the nervous system and aids in urinary tract inflammation.
To brew these teas, use one teaspoon of your chosen herb in a cup of boiling water. Let steep for 10 minutes before enjoying. For compresses, the tea can be prepared at a stronger concentration.
