#VALUE!
Today, people spend more hours at the office than they do at home. When we consider the dull lighting, bare windows, and dark brown furniture, it’s no surprise that overall mood can dip and energy levels can feel low. Research finds that plants can boost your mood and transform your workday.
Plants Make You Happier at Work
Studies show that having plants in your workspace can significantly improve your mood and even make you feel happier. In fact, being around nature- especially green colors- has been shown to elevate emotional well-being. Experts recommend spending a few minutes simply gazing at a plant during the day.
A study from the University of Queensland in Australia discovered that offices filled with greenery don’t only make people feel better, but they also boost productivity by up to 15%. "Green plants help employees become more physically, mentally, and emotionally engaged in their work, making the environment more enjoyable,” says Professor Alex Haslam, one of the lead researchers. “When the workplace feels more pleasant and effective, employees feel that their employers care about their well-being."
The Research Results
The study compared two workplaces- one bare and one filled with plants- across two major companies in England and the Netherlands. Workers completed surveys evaluating their job satisfaction, focus, and even air quality.
The results were clear: Offices with plants were linked to higher levels of happiness, satisfaction, and concentration compared to the empty, plant-free spaces.
Not Just for Work- Bring It Home
Why limit the benefits of greenery to the office? Bring plants into your home, too. Place them wherever you spend time to decorate your space and improve your mood.
A small investment in a green plant might just be one of the easiest ways to create a more joyful, productive, and relaxing space, at work or at home.
