For many people, a morning shower is an essential part of starting the day. But is it actually a healthy habit? Experts suggest it may be time to rethink this common ritual.
Dr. Giuseppe Aragona, a physician and medical advisor at Prescription Doctor, explains that while a morning shower is refreshing and prepares the body for the day ahead, it also has some downsides. According to him, “An evening shower not only helps relax the body before sleep but also aids in maintaining skin hygiene.” At night, the body secretes sweat and natural oils, and a morning shower can strip away this protective layer.
Moreover, showering at night has been shown to positively affect sleep quality. Warm water helps relax the body and reduce stress. In addition, washing off the dust and sweat accumulated throughout the day can lower the risk of skin irritation and other issues.
Beyond the health considerations, there are also environmental factors. Morning showers are often quicker but less water-efficient, while evening showers allow for a more mindful and relaxed use of water.
While you may feel the need to change your habits, experts recommend listening to your body, and choosing a shower routine that suits your individual needs.
