A natural oil blend can help relieve cold symptoms in babies, ease congestion, and promote relaxation. Following is a simple and safe recipe you can make at home:
Ingredients:
Carrier (Base) Oil:
2 tablespoons sweet almond oil (you can also use coconut oil or high-quality olive oil).
Gentle Essential Oils:
1 drop eucalyptus radiata essential oil (a mild type suitable for babies over 3 months).
1 drop lavender essential oil.
Preparation:
In a small bowl or glass bottle, thoroughly mix the base oil with the essential oils.
Close the bottle tightly and store it in a cool, dark place.
How to Use:
Chest Massage:
Rub a small amount of the oil between your hands to warm it slightly, then gently massage your baby’s chest and upper back.Foot Massage:
Massage the oil into your baby’s feet, then put on socks to help retain body warmth.Gentle Steam (for babies 6 months and older only):
Place a bowl of warm water near the baby's crib (out of reach) and add one drop of the oil blend to create gentle, soothing steam.
Safety Notes:
For babies 3 months and older only: Certain essential oils, like eucalyptus radiata, are safe for this age group but must always be used in low concentrations.
Do not use eucalyptus globulus: This type is not safe for infants and may irritate their respiratory system.
Perform an allergy test: Apply a small amount of the oil to a small patch of skin (such as the back of the hand) and observe for any reactions.
Avoid contact with the face and sensitive areas.
