Teeth whitening strips, pricey toothpastes, and countless other whitening products have flooded the market for years. The desire for bright, white teeth is widespread, and manufacturers are well aware- offering targeted products with hefty price tags. What if the solution is already sitting on your kitchen counter? If you have a bunch of bananas, you might already have a natural, budget-friendly whitening remedy.

Let’s start with a few fun facts:
There are over 1,000 banana varieties worldwide in different shapes, sizes, and colors- including red, green, orange, and even tiny finger-sized bananas.
A natural energy source: Bananas are rich in carbohydrates, making them a great quick energy snack. They also contain potassium, magnesium, and B vitamins which are essential for muscle, nerve, and digestive health.

Heart health benefits: Their high potassium content helps regulate blood pressure and supports heart function. Potassium is also known to lower the risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease.
Mood-boosting effects: Bananas contain tryptophan, an amino acid the body converts into serotonin- the “happiness hormone.” Serotonin plays a key role in improving mood and promoting a sense of calm and well-being.

What About Your Teeth?
Dr. Mandel, a well-known dentist and internet personality, claims that the inside of a banana peel can help whiten teeth due to its high mineral content.
Cut a small 2x2 cm piece from the inner part of a not-too-ripe banana peel.
Rub it gently on your upper and lower teeth in circular motions for a few minutes.
Wait another 10 minutes, then brush your teeth as usual.
He adds that the banana peel may help reduce gum inflammation due to its antibacterial properties. With consistent use for about a month, you may begin seeing noticeable results.

For Your Skin
Dr. Mandel also suggests using banana peels for lip and under-eye care:
For dry lips: Freeze a banana peel for 30 minutes, then place the inner side on your lips for 10 minutes before rinsing.
For dark circles: Freeze the peel for 30 minutes, then gently place it under your eyes for 20 minutes.
