Natural Remedies for Head Lice: Do They Really Work?

How do you handle your kids' lice problems? Do you reach for chemical treatments or opt for natural solutions? Experts in New York noted that lice have been 'raising their heads' more in the past year than before.

Adrian Pinckney, a specialist from the Lice Treatment Center in New York, says the issue affects more children than adults, particularly those aged 3 to 11. In Israel, statistics clearly show that 75% of children have contracted lice at least once during their lives.

So, what can be done to get rid of them? Mainly, home remedies such as applying mayonnaise or vinegar, and sometimes even olive oil, onto the head.

In the past, by the way, kerosene was used as a miraculous remedy, which is not recommended anymore since it can cause skin burns and has even led many children to hospitalizations.

As for olive oil, there is no scientific proof that it is effective against lice. A medical center in Wisconsin recommends coating children's heads with olive oil every four days.

As for mayonnaise, it is also considered effective for killing lice. Experts suggest sleeping with mayonnaise in your hair overnight, but wearing a shower cap.

The popular treatment involves a fine-toothed lice comb. It is recommended to comb for at least five minutes to remove lice from the head.

In this case, you should shampoo the hair along with conditioner and comb it with a lice comb.
