In her weekly radio show on Radio 103FM, Dr. Maya Roseman discussed foods that influence our memory. "First of all, it's important to remember that our memory, or more precisely, forgetfulness, is influenced by many factors not related to diet—such as stress, an overload of tasks, age, and of course, nutrition itself. An improper diet can definitely reduce memory," said Dr. Roseman.

Which foods can improve our memory?

Lecithin: For long-term memory, it's important to eat an egg every day because it contains lecithin and choline, which are essential for brain function.

Omega-3: It's advisable to eat sea fish twice a week as they contain omega-3, which improves blood flow to the brain and memory. Omega-3 is also found in walnuts, chia, and flax seeds.

Vitamin A: According to research, one carrot a day will help your memory, as vitamin A influences brain cells.

Dr. Roseman also addressed the question of whether it's beneficial to eat chocolate before an exam, explaining that chocolate contains caffeine, which is stimulating, sugar, which gives the brain instant energy, and also lecithin. "So it's true that chocolate helps before an exam, but it works for a relatively short time. If the exam is long, it's better to also include dried fruits or a sandwich in addition to the chocolate," she explained.

What harms our memory?

Dr. Roseman said that alcohol, preservatives, and artificial sweeteners can harm our memory because all these are synthetic substances that are not meant to be in the body, and they can affect the brain. A lack of vitamin B12 can also lead to serious memory problems, even causing us to forget the names of people close to us. Therefore, "vegetarians or vegans need to be very careful. Often B12 doesn't absorb well through the stomach. Those with stomach issues should also be cautious. How do you know if you're deficient? There is a special blood test for B12 that is recommended," concluded Dr. Roseman.
