Keep Your Grapes Fresh: Effective Storage Tips

You bought grapes, spent money to enjoy a fresh, juicy fruit, and then discover after a few days that they have lost their freshness and most of them are spoiled. Admit it, it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.

According to a study published in the journal "Scientific Reports", scientists from Western New England University found that eating grapes alters the gut bacterial composition and positively impacts health.

The eight-week study explored the effects of grape consumption on the gut microbiome with 29 volunteers who were required to eat grapes three times a day for two weeks.

The study results were encouraging. There was a positive change in the bacteria in the gut, and beneficial impacts were noted on heart, colon, and brain indicators.

Grape Freshness Preservation Guidelines

Can you freeze grapes? How should you store a bunch of grapes, and what about sliced grapes? Here are all the methods and rules for keeping grapes fresh longer.

1. Choosing the Grapes

When buying, select grapes attached to the stem. If you find some loose grapes or shriveled or watery ones in the box, don't buy them. There's a good chance that bunch won't stay fresh for long.

2. Refrigeration

Whole Grapes - To extend the lifespan of your grapes, store them straight in the fridge after washing and drying with a paper towel. Don't leave grapes in a bowl in the living room, as they won't stay edible for long.

By the way, place the grapes in a ventilated container. You can leave them in the original box (just give it a rinse first), but do not use a sealed container or bag.

Sliced Grapes – They can stay fresh in the fridge for two days.
