For years, Dr. Jen Gunter, a renowned American physician specializing in women's health, has advocated a foundational dietary tip for her patients of almost any age: daily inclusion of dietary fibers.

She claims the incredible benefits cannot be underestimated or measured.

In her book, where she elaborates on her method, Dr. Gunter writes that women should consume 25 grams of dietary fiber each day, "and if they don't, they immediately feel the effects on their digestive systems." She further notes that, in reality, only 5% of the global population consumes the recommended daily amount of dietary fiber.

The reason, she explains, is simple: "Fiber has one drawback," she candidly states without embellishing the reality, "it causes gas in the digestive system, and some people avoid consuming the necessary amount because of this."

"Dietary fibers prevent constipation and, importantly, reduce the risk of developing hemorrhoids. Anyone suffering from this painful condition will thank me for this advice. It's truly life-saving to know this. But that's not all. Fibers also balance blood sugar levels and affect the rate of carbohydrate digestion in your body, so if you're trying to lose weight, this is excellent advice for you as well."

According to her, dietary fibers also assist in combating and preventing diseases due to their ability to absorb very specific minerals that benefit our intestines. "Our intestines contain friendly bacteria that are crucial to maintain. Fiber does exactly that. If you consume foods like onions, oats, asparagus, leeks, and Jerusalem artichokes (featured in the front image), these foods contain many soluble fibers (beneficial and desirable for our health) known as inulin."

In 2005, a large study was conducted in France, the results of which were published in the Nutrition Journal. The researchers managed to demonstrate that the composition of inulin fibers significantly increases the absorption of calcium and magnesium and encourages the proliferation of good bacteria in the intestines. This led researchers to conclude that the consumption of inulin fibers enhances the intestine's ability to absorb calcium and magnesium, sometimes even combating type 2 diabetes and colon cancer. She further adds that consuming dietary fibers influences the body's natural strength and helps preserve our natural energy.
