Have you noticed how every holiday has its own scent? Sukkot brings the smell of the sukkah and its decorations, Rosh Hashanah is filled with the aroma of cooking simanim, and Passover? For many people, Passover is synonymous with the smell of bleach. Indeed, bleach is a staple cleaning product in many Jewish homes despite the allergies and sensitivities it can trigger. Is there an alternative? Can you avoid cleaning with this whitening and potentially harmful substance that causes countless unpleasant and sometimes dangerous side effects?

We have gathered 5 amazing recipes for creating incredible cleaning materials that work just as well as any dangerous cleaner.

What do you need?

  • Several bottles of vinegar
  • A box of citric acid

  • Essential oils (optional but highly recommended): lavender, mint, eucalyptus, tea tree

1. Floor Cleaner:

  • A bucket of water
  • A quarter cup of vinegar
  • 6-7 drops of essential oil of your choice. Each essential oil has a different effect: lavender is soothing and pleasant-smelling, tea tree oil has strong antibacterial properties, mint is excellent for repelling ants, and eucalyptus is great for purifying the air at home.

2. Sanitizing Cleaner for Faucets and Sinks:

  • 1 tablespoon of citric acid

Usage: Sprinkle inside the toilet bowl, wait a few minutes, scrub with a brush, and flush.

  1. Grease Remover:
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • Half a teaspoon of liquid soap
  • 2 cups of hot water

Usage: Pour into a clean spray bottle and mist.

5. Window Cleaner

  • 2 cups of water
  • 1/4 cup of vinegar
  • 1/2 cup of liquid soap
