Stories of departed souls appearing in dreams to correct past wrongs are plentiful, yet each occurrence highlights the importance of such messages. A recent story out of Jerusalem has captivated both locals and those beyond its borders. A city resident, who lived in an Orthodox neighborhood, passed away some years back. Recently, he appeared in his son's dream with an urgent message about a debt that needed repayment.
"You received $3,000 from my brother-in-law that shouldn't be yours. Return the money, or I will hold you accountable," the dream warned.
The son awoke deeply troubled, convinced of the dream's truth. Years prior, his father and the brother-in-law had entered a joint business venture. Lacking funds, the brother-in-law couldn't pay his share initially, so the deceased absorbed the debt until it was later repaid.
Following the man's death, his widow found a promissory note indicating her brother owed the amount, despite his belief he'd settled the debt. Wanting to avoid distressing his widowed sister, the brother-in-law quietly paid the debt again, even telling her it was a complete gift.
Despite the brother-in-law's intentions, the deceased was unsettled by what he saw as ill-gotten gains. Seeking heavenly permission, he appeared in his son’s dream to deliver this message.
Understanding the gravity of the situation, the son consulted Rabbi Shachnezy, who advised that the debt be repaid and the story shared to educate and benefit others.
