What Is a Satellite?

A satellite is an object that travels in a fixed path, or orbit, around a larger body in space. The moon, for example, is Earth’s natural satellite and it moves around us, perfectly timed by Hashem’s design.

But not all satellites are natural. Today, the word satellite is also used to describe human-made devices launched into space. These artificial satellites serve many purposes: they help us communicate, predict the weather, gather information, and even support national security. They circle the Earth in carefully calculated paths.

At the moment, there are nearly 5,000 artificial satellites orbiting our planet, though only around 2,000 of them are still fully active. The rest are no longer in use but remain in space, like a kind of celestial “junkyard.”

Who Invented the Digital Camera?

In 1975, Steven Sasson, an engineer working at Kodak, built the very first digital camera. At the time, it was a huge innovation, even though the camera itself was large and bulky, and its resolution, just 10,000 pixels, was very low compared to today’s cameras.

But here’s the surprising part: Kodak didn’t realize how big this invention would become. They didn’t continue developing the digital camera, and other companies quickly stepped in, creating smaller, more powerful, and more user-friendly cameras. Eventually, Kodak couldn’t catch up with the competition, and the company that once dominated the photography world sadly collapsed.

It’s a powerful reminder that even brilliant ideas need follow-through and faith in the future.

Which City Has the Largest Population?

The city with the largest population in the world is Tokyo, the capital of Japan. If we include the full Tokyo Metropolitan Area, meaning the central city plus the nearby cities and suburbs, it has more than 37 million people! Even the city center alone is home to over 14 million residents.

Living in Tokyo is expensive. Regular apartments are often affordable only to the wealthy. Many people live in capsule hotels, which offer small, pod-like sleeping spaces just big enough for one person to lie down and rest. It’s a unique way of life, built around creativity, space-saving, and survival in one of the world’s most crowded cities.

Just like the Jewish idea that every person is a whole world, Tokyo reminds us how much life and variety can be packed into a small space and how each individual still matters.
