• How Many Potato Varieties Are There?
There are around 2,000 types of potatoes in the world! Once considered food for the poor and even prisoners, potatoes became a favorite in the 20th century especially after French fries were invented. In the U.S., two popular kinds are the light-skinned Almera, great for mashed potatoes, and the red-skinned Dutch Desiree, perfect for frying.

• When Were Crosswalks Invented?
Crosswalks have been around for about 2,000 years! In places like ancient Pompeii, people used them to cross streets without stepping into dirt and mess. In modern times, as more cars filled the roads, crosswalks became common for keeping pedestrians safe.

• What Makes the Lionfish Dangerous?
The lionfish is named for its bold colors and long fins, which act as a warning to other sea creatures. But it’s not just for show, it’s venomous. Its spines can sting people too, and anyone who gets stung needs medical care right away.

• What Are Tears Made Of?
Tears are mostly water, about 98% but they also have sugar and salt. Most tears help clean out dust or other irritants in our eyes and include special proteins from our immune system. Tears from emotions, like sadness or stress, also carry stress hormones.

• How Is Butter Made?
Milk from cows has different parts in it, and one of them is cream—the rich, fatty part. To make butter, the cream is churned in a machine. This breaks up the fat until it clumps together and turns solid. That’s how butter is made!
