A dramatic rescue took place in Kentucky after a truck driver lost control of his vehicle and ended up dangling from the Kennedy Bridge over a highway. Firefighters arrived quickly and worked for about 30 minutes to pull him to safety.
Police shared parts of the driver’s desperate emergency call. “Please help me, I’m about… I’m about to fall off the bridge,” he pleaded. “I’m just hanging over the bridge. I don’t want to die.” The dispatcher said the driver sounded very scared and begged him to stay on the line until help arrived.
“He kept saying he was afraid to move and just wanted someone to come help him,” the dispatcher recalled.
To calm him down, the dispatcher gently asked questions, like whether there were other cars nearby. The driver replied, “I can’t tell. All I see right now is the road beneath me.”
According to a post by the Louisville Fire Department, firefighters found the truck’s cabin hanging dangerously off the edge of the bridge. They used a crane to safely rescue him. Captain Donovan Sims, who was part of the rescue, explained, “We strapped him into a rope system and lowered someone into the cab to lift him back up.”
This scary incident happened almost exactly one year after a similar case, when another truck dangled over the edge of the George Rogers Clark Bridge, which connects Kentucky to Southern Indiana.
