With antisemitism on the rise across the U.S., Congressman Randy Fine is sending a strong and personal message. The Republican representative from Florida placed a special mezuzah at the entrance of his Capitol Hill office, a mezuzah with the words “Hebrew Hammer,” symbolizing his identity as a proud fighter against antisemitism.
Fine shared a photo of the mezuzah on his social media account (formerly Twitter), writing, “Today seems a suitable day to display the mezuzah. I think it fits.” His post came after antisemitic riots took place at Columbia University, which he strongly condemned in another message, calling for the deportation of those involved if they’re not U.S. citizens.
Marc Zell, Chairman of the Republican Party in Israel, praised the act, saying, “Randy Fine is one of the most proudly Jewish politicians in American government, and placing this unique mezuzah in his office is an important symbolic act.” Zell added that as antisemitism grows, it’s more important than ever for Jewish leaders to show pride and courage. “Fine’s choice of the ‘Hebrew Hammer’ symbol sends a powerful message that Jews will not bow to hatred,” he said.
