#VALUE!
You've probably heard stories of people going fishing and stumbling upon a bottle with a message inside or discovering some historic item with significant value. But when was the last time you heard about a couple going fishing and "catching" hundreds of thousands of dollars stored inside a safe?
This is a true story that recently unfolded in New York. The couple, long-time enthusiasts of "magnet fishing," managed to land a treasure: a safe containing no less than $100,000 in cash.
James Kane and Barbie Agostini tossed a rope with a strong magnet into a lake in a park last Friday. Feeling the weight of what they hooked, they quickly realized it was a safe. Upon opening it, they found bundles of $100 bills inside, totaling not less than $100,000. It should be noted that some of the money was water-damaged.
In an interview with NY1, James shared that they started this hobby during the pandemic because the equipment is affordable and one can find valuable items. He never imagined stumbling upon something that would set them up financially. "We pulled everything out, and there were two stacks of hundreds. It's insane," he said. Later, he contacted the NYPD about the find, and officers arrived at the scene. After examining the safe and its contents, they informed him that they had no "criminal" information associated with it, so he could keep the money.
His partner added: "There were no identifying documents or any information in the safe that would lead to its owner. The police basically told us, 'Well, congratulations!' I couldn't believe it. I lost it when I heard."
