What was supposed to be a novel and refreshing experience ended with a hospital visit: A cafe named 'La Foresta' in Gurgaon, India, served a dessert promising an otherworldly experience to its diners.
The dessert consisted of ice with powdered sugar, but it turned out to be dry ice, which is actually solid carbon dioxide.
In a video shared on social media, three women and two men were seen clutching their throats in distress, convulsing with severe pain. In their desperation, they attempted to rinse their mouths with cold water but began coughing and vomiting blood.
One of the diners, named Ankit Kumar, called the police and reported that as soon as the waiter served them the dessert, they began to feel a burning sensation in their mouths and started vomiting. Two of the diners were hospitalized in critical condition, but their lives were saved.
"I hadn’t tasted the dessert yet," Kumar explained. "But if I had, I could have died."
The police, who tried to track down the owner of the establishment, found that he had disappeared but persisted and arrested the shift manager on duty that day. Charges will be filed against him and the owner for alleged poisoning.
