Morocco remains in mourning and shock following the devastating earthquake that struck Marrakech and its neighboring areas last Friday night. The disaster claimed the lives of over 2,000 individuals. As the death toll rises, local authorities are searching for more camera footage documenting the moments before and after the catastrophe.
Yesterday (Sunday), security camera footage from a building in the city revealed mysterious blue flashes of light appearing in the sky about three minutes before the deadly earthquake. The phenomenon has yet to be explained, and it remains unclear whether it is a natural occurrence associated with such disasters.
However, this is not the first time flashes of light have been observed before an earthquake. Similar flashes were recorded by security cameras ahead of the massive earthquake in Turkey earlier this year, which claimed 45,000 lives.
According to Wikipedia, earthquake lights can appear in a spectrum of colors before or during tectonic movement or seismic activity, such as an earthquake or volcanic eruption.
Earthquake lights were first captured on camera in 1965 during an earthquake in Japan. Subsequently, they were observed in China in 2008, Italy in 2009, and Mexico in 2017..
