A team of researchers from Pontificia Universidad Católica in Chile discovered that certain games can positively impact your children's mathematical abilities.
Published in the journal Early Years, the research found that number-based board games (like Dominoes, Monopoly, etc.) enhance the math skills of young children.
Improving Mathematical Skills
The study involved children aged 3-9, divided into two groups.
In the first group, the children played a board game focusing on arithmetic skills, while the second group did not play at all.
Before the sessions, the children's mathematical abilities were assessed, and of course, they were reassessed afterward. At the end of the study, the researchers evaluated numerical performance in terms of number recognition and association, understanding quantities, and operations like addition and subtraction.
The results showed that 32% of the children who played improved significantly in mathematical performance compared to the group that did not play.
In conclusion, the study demonstrates that board games have an impact on children's math skills and abilities.
