Jon Voight's Unexpected Support for Israel and Jewish Values

World-renowned actor Jon Voight, an Oscar winner and three-time Golden Globe recipient, recently spoke in an interview about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his views on Judaism. Voight, who is also known as the father of famous actress Angelina Jolie, shared some intriguing insights about his fondness for the Jewish people.

"I was 10 years old when the State of Israel was founded, and it was a tremendous miracle that both the Soviet Union and the United States endorsed it. It wasn’t due to a divine promise or the United Nations; they simply took what was given to them and became a nation," he told YNET. "Despite all the dangers, they have survived to this day and have worked wonders. Not only have they won every war, they've defied all odds."

"I have to say that Benjamin Netanyahu is the greatest blessing this nation has known, during a period where there is considerable threat from Iran, and even from the American administration," Voight added. "Israelis have always been in danger, and they still are. But they will survive this too. They will fulfill God's promise to be a light unto the nations. That's why I support Israel. When I look at my own country losing its direction, the place where I can find some sanity is in the Torah and in the very existence of the State of Israel."

"I was born in 1938. After World War II ended, I was very young, and back then antisemitism was widespread," he continued. "As a child, I knew Jews as those who employed my father and thanks to them we had food on the table. They supported and promoted my father from a young age. Even as a child, I knew these were exceptional people. I already understood then that the idea behind antisemitism was foolish, and I figured it out on my own. My father had a strong sense of justice that came from these people, thanks to their Judaism. We had relatives who weren’t as generous and wise as he was."
