#VALUE!
What’s going on here? We’d like to know too: Two people checked how much shredded cheese really comes in a 300 grams package - and returned with different findings each.
When Nofar Avshalom decided to check the weight of the cheese she bought from Gad Dairies, she said it was because she suddenly felt the package was lighter than usual. She poured the contents into a bowl, adjusted the scale, and weighed the cheese, only to find it weighed just 158 grams, much to her surprise and disappointment.
"300 grams of shredded mozzarella from Gad Dairies, or at least that's what it says... because the scale shows otherwise," Avshalom wrote in a post she shared in a group called "What It Really Looks Like?"
In response to her post, some laughed and suggested she check again. She repeated the process, and the scale, of course, didn't lie.
"300 includes the bowl," someone joked, while another person posted a picture of the same product, stating they weighed it and found it to be 298 grams.
Why does this matter so much? Believe it or not, this type of issue often leads to class-action lawsuits.
For instance, just two months ago, the 'Half Price' supermarket chain compensated customers with a 10 shekel discount at the butcher for six months, totaling 5.62 million shekels, after they 'forgot' to remove the separation sheet from packaged fresh chicken before weighing them.
This settlement was reached following a compromise in the Tel Aviv District Court as part of a class-action lawsuit. "The chain should have deducted the weight of the separation sheet when weighing products and charging customers," claimed the lawsuit. "Since it didn't, it must compensate its customers."
