Heartwarming Moment: 8-Year-Old Homeless Boy Gets His Own Bed

At just eight years old, Dyer has experienced many hardships in his young life.

The young boy from Detroit recently moved people worldwide with his emotional response upon realizing he had a home with a beautiful bed of his own.

In a viral video shared on social media, Dyer is seen crying tears of joy upon seeing the home his mother received from a nonprofit organization, after being homeless since he was three.

"When Dyer was two years old, I lost my job, and eventually, our home," recounts Dyer's mother. "I struggled with authorities for as long as I could until I couldn't anymore. We moved into a shelter, but the lack of privacy there often led me to find quiet corners on the streets.”

According to his mother, when Dyer started first grade, things got even harder. "There were days when there was no food when he came home from school, leaving him unable to concentrate. We returned to the shelter, and I explained to Dyer that it was temporary, and we needed it to get a home from the government.”

Their suffering recently came to an end when a nonprofit organization heard their story and decided to step in. Thanks to the organization, Dyer and his mother finally received the housing they had been promised for years, but a new challenge emerged.

"I had no way to start living again. Life on the street was all about survival, and saving money was impossible," shares his mother. "We had to ask for more help.”

Realizing the government wasn't going to act, the organization's representatives took matters into their own hands: "Dyer was sleeping on a pile of blankets, as they couldn't afford a bed. It pained us, and we decided to ask the community for donations of second-hand furniture. We collected everything they needed - appliances, a wardrobe, and even a new bed for Dyer. Their home finally feels like a home and not an empty space.”

A team of volunteers from the organization visited their home to ensure everything was in place, but Dyer's reaction was unmistakable when he saw not only his own bed but also decorations and toys donated by other children.

After being hugged by one of the volunteers who witnessed his excitement, Dyer is seen in the video bursting into tears. "I’m happy, I don’t know what to do with it," says Dyer in the video, while in the background, an adult's voice remarks, "I can't believe a little boy had to go without so much, and a second-hand bed can bring him such joy."
