A Mother's Message: Celebrating Differences and Embracing Uniqueness

A mother of a toddler born with a large birthmark on her face has taken on a 'mission' to show the world that our imperfections are the perfection we strive for.

When Nicole Hall gave birth to her daughter and saw the birthmark on her face, she decided to give her a name that no one could ignore: Winry, inspired by the word 'WIN'.

"One of the most amazing things about being human is that no two of us are exactly alike. Our imperfections create the perfection we strive for," Nicole explained on an American morning show.

"My one-year-and-one-month-old daughter doesn't look like all the other kids around, and that's perfectly fine. Not everyone needs to look the same."

The birthmark, known in the medical world as CMN, can appear anywhere on the body in various sizes and light brown or black shades, as reported by the National Organization for Rare Disorders.

"We want to encourage parents of unique children that being different is something to be proud of, not ashamed of. For many people, it's the first time they've seen a birthmark like my daughter's, which is why I enjoy sharing her photos. Talk to your kids, explain to them that a birthmark isn't a disease and it's not contagious."

Nicole is also aware that Winry's birthmark might develop into melanoma (skin cancer) someday. "Her health and happiness are our top priorities," says Nicole. "We need to constantly monitor her with sunscreen, and I'm especially careful during the summer. I protect her skin with sunscreen and hats, and I know her dermatologist is probably going to be our best friend as she grows up - but I also want her to be treated normally, because she is everything a baby should be: the happiest baby I've ever seen."
