12-Year-Old's Resourcefulness Saves Hikers and Their Dog

David King is only 12 years old, but he recently made headlines after rescuing a couple and their dog during a hike in the woods of Honolulu.

Every now and then, we might wonder 'what would we do' if we found ourselves in a situation where others rely on us to be heroes. However, King didn’t wonder how to be a hero; he simply acted in a way that showed he was one.

According to reports, David found the couple stranded on a trail in the forest without food, water, a flashlight, or a cell phone. "Our phone battery died after a few hours of constant use. But even before that, we had no reception and couldn't contact anyone," the couple shared.

The couple's significant issue in this ordeal was their dog Smokey, who, after six hours in the forest heat, lost his patience and refused to walk further. "He's not used to such long walks. He's a very pampered dog, mainly roaming in the backyard. He's not used to the wilderness. His feet were bleeding from walking so much in the heat."

King, who had been attending scout classes where he learned to make stretchers from sticks and a shirt, wasted no time and sprang into action. Using his T-shirt and branches from nearby trees, he constructed a stretcher for the unfortunate and injured dog, leading the couple and their pet to a trail he was familiar with, which led to an inhabited area near the forest. According to reports, David had only recently learned how to make the stretcher in a first aid lesson at the scouts.
